I remember like it was yesterday when I read an article about John Mackey, CEO
of Whole Foods, talking about Conscious Capitalism and how the best companies
take all their stakeholders, particularly employees, into account, and are not just
stockholders. Wow! Three weeks later with my company paying half the cost and
my church (yes, my church--where there's a will, there's a way!) paying the other, I was on a plane to San Francisco to attend the Conscious Capitalism Conference. And I've never looked back.
Turns out that research consistently shows that companies that have cultures that care about their employees and other stakeholders are the most likely to succeed and thrive--and the most likely to change the world. Not surprisingly, companies that are great places to work have lower turnover rates, better recruits, happier customers, higher productivity, and higher profits.
